The Boggo Road heritage prison is currently closed pending the completion of nearby construction work. The site is in the portfolio of the Dept of Energy and Public Works, but it is not known when the prison will reopen.

Although various official plans have come and gone since 2005, there is still some uncertainty over how the prison site will be managed when it eventually reopens.

At the moment, people involved with the Boggo Arts and Heritage Alliance are assessing the situation, engaging with communities, and aiming to develop positive plans for the future of Boggo Road that will create exciting opportunities for many different stakeholders and offer a dynamic range of activities for visitors.
